About The Book

Borno State Books of Record is an encyclopaedia of amazing records, event and the great people of Borno State. This book will unveil to you in detail the history of Borno people. It is a state in north-eastern Nigeria, formed in 1976 under General Olusegun Obasanjo. Its capital and largest city is Maiduguri. The Yobe State was created out of a portion of the Borno State in 1991. The motto of the state is "Home of Peace," and is the homeland of the Kanuri people in Nigeria and several other ethnic groups.

The state has a predominantly population of Kanuri people, while other ethnic groups such as Lapang, Babur/Bura and Marghi are also found in the southern part of the state. Shuwa Arabs are mainly the descendants of Arab people and are an example of the endurance of traditional political institutions in some areas of Africa. The emirs of the former Kana?Bornu Empire have played a part in the politics of this area for nearly 1,000 years.

After Nigerian independence in 1960, the State of Borno remained fairly autonomous until the number of states in Nigeria expanded to 12 in 1967. Local government reform in 1976 further reduced the power of the emirs of the former dynasty, and by the time of Nigeria's return to civilian rule in 1979.

Borno State Books of Record is a compendium of history and great icons of hope in all the sectors of life in Borno State.
